Companion Aide

Director - Jacquelyn Thompson

MISSION - To assist in the needs and concerns of seniors in all areas which would lead to a more productive life. This will be accomplished through education, training opportunities, economic development and a wide range of social services and programs responsive to those needs thus enhancing the abilities, talents and advocacy of residents of the Township of Union and the County of Union.

NEED - The Companion Aide/Safe Housing Program, under the umbrella of UTCAO, provide services to clients who meet the target population criteria of being frail, impoverished, minority, and/or vulnerable.

OBJECTIVES
The Companion Aide Program is divided into three sections. Information/Assistance, Outreach, and Housekeeping.

The primary goals of Information/Assistance and Outreach, are to provide the most comprehensive information, referral and outreach resource system for the Union Township and Union County seniors age 60 and over. Seniors with the greatest social and economic needs are given first priority. Housekeeping care allow our seniors to remain in their own home environment and receive quality service such as; Light Meal Preparation, Light Housekeeping, Communication and Companionship, thereby assisting them in maintaining their independence and avoid possible nursing home placement.

The Safe Housing Program allow seniors to have minor household and seasonal yard care services including; replacing door locks, changing screens, storm windows and installation of handrails or ramps. Our intention is to improve the quality of life for seniors in Union County and the community by offering services that are essential for the elderly to remain in their own homes.

Our services are developed, however cost to supply these needed chores are continuously increasing. Our funding is on yearly bases. Any additional funds will enable us to continue serving (and possibly increase) current clients of: 27 Companion Aide and 22 Safe Housing seniors.

As long as there are seniors, our services will be needed, if funding is available.

Benefits received from our Program, are opportunities to care for our senior community citizens who are in dire need of our services.

They represent a continuous growing population and show great appreciation of our labor.

Currently, we receive funding from a variety of sources. Please call us today for services or to volunteer your time. You could also become a financial donor.
